What is Long Term care?

Long-term care is defined as the services that can cater to your needs once old age, disability or illness makes it challenging for you to take care of yourself.  Anyone is at risk for long term care but this is usually the concern of the aging population and those who have diseases and conditions.

People who need long term care are those who are having a hard time carrying out their ADLs or activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, eating, transferring, toileting and grooming.

Long-term care services can be given in different settings such as inside nursing homes, assisted living facilities, adult day care, hospice facilities and at home. The most popular choice is aging at home but you need to consider your future care needs in order to determine the most fitting care setting for you.
