Alzheimer’s Care and Its Devastating Cost

Taking care of an aging loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or other cognitive conditions is costly. It costs 42% of Americans $20,000 annually and about a third of those shell out $30,000 or more annually. According to Caring.com, 62% of Americans pay out-of-the-pocket, 51% use their loved one’s savings and only 10% use long term care insurance coverage. This only shows how unprepared Americans are in terms of paying for the high cost of long term care. The cost will continue to go up and as a matter of fact, Alzheimer’s care will cost around $1.2 trillion in 2050.
